Named for Pangkalan Bun in Central Kalimantan, the Red Pankalam Bun Channa is a locality form valued for its rich red tones, which deepen under blackwater conditions and a good diet. Its compact size and striking color make it a centerpiece for a specialist tank.

Keep it in soft, acidic, tannin-stained water with leaf litter, roots and low light. It is a predator and a strong jumper, so it needs a fully covered tank and a small air gap at the surface.
