The Red Barito Channa is a Borneo locality form associated with the Barito river basin in Kalimantan. It is popular for its red coloration, which becomes richer with maturity, good feeding and dim, tannin-rich water.

It has a bold, curious personality and an ambush hunting style, and is best housed alone in a well-decorated species tank with roots, leaf litter and hiding spots. As an air-breather and jumper, it needs a tight lid.
